Full Casting Announced for Jekyll & Hyde, Starring Constantine Maroulis
Complete casting has been announced for the Broadway-bound production of Jekyll & Hyde, starring previously announced Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis, Deborah Cox and Teal Wicks. Directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun, the musical is slated to open on Broadway in the spring of 2013 following a 25-week national tour. A pre-tour engagement has been set for September 7-30 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in California. The tour will officially launch on October 2 at San Diego’s Civic Theatre. No Broadway theater or dates have been announced.
In addition to Maroulis as Dr. Jekyll, Deborah Cox as Lucy and Teal Wicks as Emma Carew, the cast will include Laird Mackintosh as John Utterson and Richard White as Sir Danvers Carew, plus David Benoit, Jerry Christakos, Dana Costello, Wendy Fox, Brian Gallagher, Sean Jenness, Mel Johnson Jr., Miles Johnson, James Judy, Ashley Loren, Courtney Markowitz, Aaron Ramey, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Rob Richardson, Blair Ross, Doug Storm, Haley Swindal and Jason Wooten.
Jekyll & Hyde is conceived for the stage by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden, with a book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Wildhorn. Based on the book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the musical tells the story of a London doctor who creates an alternate personality in an attempt to cure his father’s mental illness. The result is Mr. Hyde, an evil alter ego that causes violence and destruction. Jekyll & Hyde originally opened on Broadway April 28, 1997 at the Plymouth Theatre and earned four Tony Award nominations.
Mackintosh appeared on Broadway in Mary Poppins. His additional theater credits include Private Lives, The Phantom of the Opera, The Drowsy Chaperone, White Christmas and The Importance of Being Earnest. His film and TV credits include Saving Private Ryan, Alexander and Nurse Betty.
White is best known as the voice of Gaston in the animated film Beauty and the Beast. He appeared in The Most Happy Fella on Broadway. His off-Broadway credits include Elizabeth and Essex and Topper.
